Ahoy!  Welcome to the USS Rowan (DD 782) 1971-73 Volunteer Crew Website. It belongs to all of us who served and fought in Rowan during the extended deployment in the waters off both North & South Vietnam. During this time we saw more action in fifteen months than most sailors see in a lifetime. We steamed within yards of the North Vietnamese coast and battled the defense artillery, we raided their main port of Haiphong, engaging two attacking missile boats-exploding one and crippling the other, and we answered the call of the Marines and Soldiers needing NGFS. As a result of this Rowan was awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation.
Again, this is OUR site.
CONTRIBUTE TO IT!

NOTE ON MEMORIES: It's been almost thirty years since we served together. Shipmates that we never thought we would forget are impossible to put a name and face to. This happens to everyone of us, I know from my own experience and from talking with more and more of our shipmates. My point is that you are not alone. Don't feel embarrassed if you can't place names and faces or even forget them all together. On the same token, don't feel hurt if a shipmate can't place you. It doesn't change anything, certainly not what we shared! Make contact, share experiences and sea stories. You'll find that the pieces start to form faster and faster, like some jigsaw puzzle. Participate in this site and attend the reunions, if at all possible.  You owe it to yourself and your shipmates. WHO ELSE KNOWS WHAT IT WAS LIKE.
